Microfilariae in Lymph Node Aspirate

چکیده
Lymphatic filariasis is a major public health problem in India. It is unusual to find microfilariae in fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) smears of lymph nodes inspite of very high incidence in India. It is estimated that about 553.7 million 1 people are at risk of lymphatic filariasis infection in 243 districts across India. In the absence of clinical features of filariasis, FNAC may help in the diagnosis of lymphatic filariasis. We present this case because of unusual occurrence of isolated lymph node filariasis (occult filariasis) without microfilaraemia.

Incidental detection of microfilariae in a lymph node aspirate: A case report
Lymphatic filariasis is a global health problem endemic in Nigeria. Peripheral blood smears are frequently negative for microfilariae in a significant number of infected patients in whom conventional diagnostic methods may also fail to identify the disease. In such cases, fine needle aspiration cytology may play an important role in disease identification. A 49-year-old South-western male Niger...
متن کاملLymph Node Enlargement in Neck Filariasis as a Rare Cause: A Case Report
Lymphatic filariasis is endemic to tropical countries and is the most common cause of acquired lymphedema in the world. Wuchereria bancrofti is the main etiological agent responsible. While the presentation of filariasis in limbs is common, isolated presentation as a single enlarged lymph node in the neck is very rare. We describe a 48-year-old Indian woman, who presented with a hard lymph node...
متن کاملDirofilaria repens microfilariae from a human node fine-needle aspirate: a case report
BACKGROUND Human dirofilariosis is still a little known infection even in endemic areas. Dirofilariosis is zoonotic infection usually abortive in humans; instead, we report a very rare case (the 4th in the world), the first in Italy, in which at least two infective larvae became mature adults that mated and produced active microfilariae even though they did not reach peripheral blood. CASE PR...

Uninfected dogs (n = 10) and those naturally infected with leishmaniasis (n = 10) were subjected to several diagnostic tests, namely: hemoculture, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of hemoculture, indirect immunofluorescence (RIFI), cytological examination of lymph node aspirate, culture of lymph node aspirate and PCR of lymph node aspirate. RIFI – followed by PCR of lymph node aspirate culture –...
